Describe the reaction between acyl chlorides and alcohols.

Acyl chlorides react vigorously with alcohols to form esters and hydrogen chloride. 


For example, the reaction between ethanoyl chloride and ethanol produces ethyl ethanoate and hydrogen chloride:

CH3COCl + C2H5OH ➔ CH3COOC2H5 + HCl
